Update for staff - 28 October

Dear Colleagues,

We have today been informed that Charnwood will move into Tier 2 Covid restrictions from the early hours (12.01am) of Saturday 31st October. Details of the restrictions in Tier 2 are available on the Government website. This move is not unexpected.

The University’s London Campus is already in an area operating at Tier 2.

Approximately one third of the cases in Charnwood are in the University area. Two-thirds are elsewhere in the Borough.

We have been working closely with the Borough and County Councils, as well as public health authorities, to implement any necessary changes.

Most aspects of the University’s operations remain unchanged. There is a general exemption for education under many of the rules and the precautions we have installed around campus are working well. There will be no further changes to learning and teaching or sporting activity, both of which continue to be carefully managed and risks mitigated.

This means that if you need to attend campus to do your role or aspects of your job (e.g. in-person teaching) then you should continue to do so as required  It is, however, very important everyone maintains social distancing (close contacts are defined as being within 2m of others for 15 minutes, or 1m for 1 minute – please note whilst face coverings mitigate the spread of Covid they do not provide a legal exemption if you are defined as a close contact).

The main difference in the Tier 2 restrictions relates to socialising – if you live in Charnwood you will no longer be allowed to socialise with anyone outside of your household in any indoor setting.

We have emailed our students today to let them know of this change and to outline what they must do in response.

As I said in my message earlier this week, if you have concerns or queries relating to the change to Tier 2, please speak to your line manager in the first instance.

Thank you again.
