Update for staff 22 September at 5.40pm

Dear Colleagues

I am writing to you following the Government’s announcement that the national Covid-19 Alert Level has been raised to 4, and the Prime Minister’s statement in the House of Commons earlier today which included the following statement: "We will ensure that schools, colleges, universities stay open because nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people”.

Detailed guidance will be released shortly. Once we have had the opportunity to read and understand this the Vice-Chancellor will write to colleagues outlining our response.

Please remember that the situation is very fluid, and we will continue to adapt our plans appropriately. However, as of today, we have reiterated to students that they should continue to return to campus as planned but have stated that our operations may need to be adjusted.

We have made a commitment to our students for a mix of on-campus teaching combined with some online teaching and have developed Covid-19-secure teaching spaces to enable this to happen.

We will continue to act with compassion and understanding with those colleagues with specific personal situations.

Please continue to refer to the University’s FAQs for detailed information, some of which have been updated in the last few days.
