About the lecture
Professor Spencer’s lecture will begin with a brief review of his past research and how it links to environmental targets.
He will then examine what is meant by Net Zero, specifically the challenges that it presents for large aircraft and heavy-duty vehicles. Finally, he will explore possible solutions and what research – and, perhaps, policy – is needed to bring them to fruition.
About the lecturer
An expert in Fluid Mechanics, Professor Adrian Spencer's research focuses on combustion, energy systems and fuel-air preparation. He examines the performance and emissions of conventional and alternative fuels in internal combustion engines, exploring ways to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. Typically, his work is experimentally based and collaborative.
He works closely with industry, leading significant projects with Rolls-Royce and Ford – and is the Director of the Caterpillar Innovation and Research Centre. He is involved in a variety of interdisciplinary projects that bridge engineering, environmental science and sport – including football aerodynamics, recycling in the sports industry and, most recently, trying to track down airborne microplastics.
