Ordinance I

Admission of Students

(Version effective from 16 December 1998)

  1. Students are admitted to the University and registered in courses of study (including research) in accordance with Regulations made from time to time by the Senate.
  2. Before being registered as a student of the University every candidate shall sign a declaration in which he/she undertakes to comply with all Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and rules affecting the conduct of students and shall provide a guarantee that he/she has finance to meet all University fees and costs arising from his/her course of study. Students are required to inform the Student Records Office of any change of address.
  3. Before being admitted to a course of study, candidates are required to have passed such examinations as may be specified in Regulations, or to have been exempted therefrom by Senate.
  4. Except by special permission of the Vice-Chancellor, no person, other than one following a programme of Further Education, shall be admitted as a student who will not have attained the age of 17 years on the date of commencement of the course.
  5. Senate may exempt from part of a course of study any student who in another institution has undergone instruction and pursued studies which are in the opinion of Senate equivalent to the instruction and studies in the University from which the student is to be exempted.
  6. Students upon admission shall pay to the University such fees as may be determined by the Council.
