Robbie Simpson

Sports Science and Mathematics, 2007

Robbie is a professional footballer, and has played with several clubs including Huddersfield, Leyton Orient, Coventry, Cambridge United and, currently, Exeter City.

Meeting many retired athletes over the years, he began to see that a lot of very talented people were struggling to find meaningful, fulfilling careers after sport.

Part of the problem was the lack of recruitment platforms specifically for them – places that allowed them to really market their many skills and qualities.

Ironically, sport professionals are highly sought after by employers across a wide range of sectors.

Robbie realised that there had to be an effective way to connect the two.

In partnership with Rob Steed, Paul Redfarn and Nathan Hastings, Robbie launched the unique recruitment platform, LAPS (Life after Professional Sport).

LAPS is an exclusive, invitation-only community designed specifically for sports professionals – and it’s free to use.

As well as helping people move into a new sphere, the site also offers advice and information about applications, interviews and qualifications and provides great networking opportunities.

LAPS already has an impressive portfolio of retired sportspeople and companies that it has helped, including Ted Baker and Divento.

I am passionate about making a difference in sport. Setting up LAPS was tough but, because it’s something I really believe in, it was easier to persevere and overcome the challenges along the way.
