Holly Kerslake - MTC
Holly Kerslake (Fine Art, 2017) was one of two undergraduates selected as the inaugural Fine Art placement students at The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), acting as Artists in Residence, 2015-16.
Holly’s role was to visually document the MTC’s achievements, creating artworks for the company’s premises – and an inspiring space for employees and visitors.
She established a specialised, professional studio and work regime to document the MTC’s day-to-day practices in new and novel forms. The studio quickly became a space to showcase works-in-progress, and a creative hub for colleagues – inspiring further works.
As well as creating exciting pieces for a permanent exterior exhibition – using MTC-developed components – Holly received several commissions from various MTC departments to produce new artworks, reflecting their specialist areas.
Holly also worked with the organisation’s marketing team to produce promotional materials around the new collections.
As the MTC’s first Fine Art placement student, Holly worked with colleagues to devise her 12-month experience, and authored a comprehensive residency guide for future artists – a major benefit to the University’s arts student placement programme.
