The National University Esports League (The NUEL) champions the development of competitive gaming at UK universities by supporting campus Esports societies nationwide, and running the inter-university National Championship.

Esports represent a multi-million pound industry with a huge global following.

Josh Williams (Information Management and Computing, 2014) launched The NUEL to support this growing community at grassroots level, driving the development of campus gaming so that players of all abilities can participate fully and, ultimately, take advantage of the career opportunities within the industry.

Since its launch in 2010, The NUEL has grown rapidly within the Studio. Now in its sixth season, it has 125 UK university members whose teams regularly compete in NUEL tournaments, and has a staff of 40 employees and volunteers.

The NUEL’s partners, supporters and clients include Twitch, GAME, SuperEvil Megacorp, Riot Games, Samsung and Red Bull.

The NUEL contributed to UKIE Whitepaper on UK eSports and Josh is a member of the advisory board for the British eSports Association.
