Placement Student Awards 2018: Kayleigh Maclellan

Kayleigh joined Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Psychological Medicine Team which assesses and treats children with neuropsychological disorders such as Tourette’s syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Medically Unexplained Symptoms.

Kayleigh helped qualified staff to deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy interventions. As part of this work, she created a range of successful tools for use during treatment sessions.

Another strand of her work was a research project, exploring parental and child satisfaction with the team’s assessments, focusing on how recommendations to improve a child’s life were implemented at home and school.

Kayleigh supported the Clinical Psychology team to ensure that resources were as individualised and patient-friendly as possible. Her work was commended for its lasting positive impacts.

Her support in the case of one patient made a significant impact. Their overall improvement in quality of life was substantial, at a particularly important stage in their life.
