Alumna takes to the skies with RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team
Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Mikaela Harrison has been selected for a two-year tour with the RAF Falcons, who are based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
Mikaela was selected for the role on the team in October 2017, and will begin her first display season on 27 April 2018.
Flt Lt Mikaela Harrison joined the RAF in 2013 as a Personnel Support Officer and in 2016 she completed her Parachute Jumping Instructor Course. Following this, she was posted to RAF Brize Norton as Officer Commanding Military Training Flight, within Parachute Training School. It was there where she was responsible for the delivery of initial parachute training, ranging up to the High-Altitude Parachute Course.
Mikaela’s first year on the RAF Falcons Team as Deputy will see her fulfilling a role as Drop Zone Safety Officer during the displays. She will be responsible for working out the release calculations based on weather conditions and ensuring the safety of parachutists.
Upon her appointment, Mikaela said:

I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to work with an excellent team of Parachute Jump Instructors and Survival Equipment Specialists to bring this famous parachute display to events around the country and Europe, especially as the RAF celebrates its 100th birthday this year.”
The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team have been in operation for over 50 years, delivering fast paced, high profile displays from up to 12,000ft. The team undertake training to prepare them for advanced Parachute Jumping Instructor roles, where they will be responsible for the delivery of operationally focused parachute training for the UK Military.
Mikaela Harrison graduated from Loughborough with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science in 2011.
