Dr Dominic Malcolm appointed as next editor of the International Review for the Sociology of Sport

Dr Dominic Malcolm of the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences has been appointed as the next editor of the International Review for the Sociology of Sport (IRSS).

The IRSS is the official journal of the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA) and is the highest ranking journal in its field, as well as being one of the oldest sports science journals in the world.

Reflecting on the appointment, Dr Malcolm said: 'It's a genuine honour to be selected for such a prestigious role. It’s flattering to be recognised by one's peers but it's also gratifying to be part of Loughborough's tradition of a having a strong presence within the international sociological community. It's great to be able to continue to contribute to Loughborough's No. 1 world ranking for Sport and Exercise Science.'

Dr Malcolm joined Loughborough in 2005 and his current research projects include investigation into the social and economic costs of sports injuries, the provision of medical care in elite football, and the experiences and attitudes towards physical activity amongst those diagnosed with respiratory health problems.

He starts his 4-year stewardship of the journal in January 2018.
