School Mission

The School is dedicated to the study of sport, exercise and health across the lifespan through the psychological, social and biological sciences, and will continue to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence.

  1. An important characteristic of the School is its ability to draw upon a range of sciences to inform and advance the fields of sport, exercise, education, health and well-being through fundamental and applied research.
  2. The School will continue to pursue research of international standing both within subject disciplines and collaboration across disciplines.
  3. Research within the School takes a lifespan approach, recognising the importance and implications of our research from birth to old age.
  4. Through excellence in research and teaching, the School will offer students the opportunity to develop a confident understanding of issues of current global significance
  5. As part of its commitment to informing and developing policy and practice in its fields of expertise, the School will offer continuing professional development opportunities for a range of groups associated with its academic objectives.
  6. The School will continue and expand upon its longstanding enterprise activity. This will include working with external organisations (eg. industrial partners, NHS, charitable organisations) to deliver commercialisation and end-user engagement.
  7. The School is dedicated to serving a variety of stakeholder interests through its ability to translate research into practice.
  8. The School is committed to an equitable distribution of resources and opportunities, commensurate with the interests and needs of a multidisciplinary environment.
  9. The School will continue to explore mechanisms to ensure that the most talented individuals have access to our learning environment.
