GS-RIG hosts delegation from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce

Last week, the Global Sourcing RIG organised a symposium to discuss China - United Kingdom Trade Relations with distinguised speakers from the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) and the Department of International Trade (DIT).

CAITEC is an inter-disciplinary and multi-functional research and consultancy unit under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) undertaking research, consultancy, publishing, training activities for the Ministry. Its main interest is in the service industry trade with a particular interest in service outsourcing. The symposium welcomed Dr Jun Lee, director of CAITEC as well as Yanxin Cui and Xilin Lee who are both Research Associates of CAITEC. Visitors from DIT included Dr Hui Pan (Coventry University) and Prof. Kathy Pain (Henley Business School).

The symposium attracted over 30 participants and offered a series of presentations about the opportunities to develop trade relationships between China and the UK in the broad area of service and in particular around service outsourcing. The day concluded with discussions about future collaboration with CAITEC on joint research and publications.

Professor Ilan Oshri, Director of the GS-RIG, commented on the opportunities in working with CAITEC in the future saying:

CAITEC is probably the most important research and advisory body within the Chinese MOFCOM that has informed and shaped policy making in the context of the Chinese service industry. We look forward to learn from their extensive experience and collaborate on joint research projects.
