Claire Peters, Woolworths Group
‘Tips for a Career in Retailing’
Claire Peters, who graduated from SBE in 1996 with a BSc in Economics and Sociology, is now a Managing Director with the Woolworth Group, Australia. She will be talking about her career in Retailing
Loughborough alumna Claire Peters has one of the biggest jobs in retail in the world, as she sits on the Group Executive Committee of Woolworths Group. Woolworths Group is an Australian retail company with more than 200,000 team members and over 28 million customers worldwide. Join Claire as she speaks to us from her base in Sydney to hear about her international career as a senior leader in retail.
Claire has worked for 24 years in the UK, Thailand and Australia for Tesco and more recently Woolworths Group, where during her time as Managing Director of Woolworths Supermarkets she managed over 1000 stores. In October 2020 Claire was appointed Managing Director of Woolworths Group’s B2B and Everyday Needs businesses. In this role Claire leads the chain of department stores Big W, the Woolworths International & Wholesale business, Property business, as well as new partnerships.
Claire started her retail career in the UK working for grocery retailer, Tesco plc. During this time she held a variety of senior roles, including Regional Retail Director; Managing Director - Large Stores, and Commercial Director, Healthcare & Baby, Beauty and Toiletries. In March 2014 Claire moved to Thailand to take up COO responsibilities for Tesco Thailand, before moving to Australia in 2017 to join Woolworths Group. Claire has been a member of Chief Executive Women since 2017.
This virtual event will give students an insight into a career in retailing. There will be a 20 minute presentation by Claire followed by a Question and Answer session.
