In this MBA Masterclass, Ian Robertson will explain the development of global shared service centres (SSCs) as an innovative organisational form and how SSCs can be a driver for change in reconfiguring, re-engineering and relocating business support services.

In a global, technology-enabled environment, finance is no longer tied to an onshore ‘Head Office’ location. Through the internet, work can be undertaken anywhere in the world, wherever the linguistic, technical and professional capability can be sourced.

Roy Waight will join Ian to discuss in addition, the transformation of Shell’s finance function through a network of business support centres and how a new, pan-organisational platform was created based on standardised systems, procedures and protocols.

Rick Payne will present a longitudinal view of Shell’s finance transformation journey from an ICAEW report comparing approaches over 60 years. The panel discussion will then discuss  a range of issues that global organisations will need to consider for the future in respect of transformation and shared services , prompted by questions from the audience.
