Seyma Bicer-Hazir

  • Postgraduate Researcher

Seyma joined Loughborough University in October 2018 as a PhD candidate. She completed her MA in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading. The title of her MA dissertation was "Evaluation of Turkey and Armenia Relations by Tracing Key Politicians’ Discourses from 2008 to 2015".

Her Ph.D. research focuses on remembrance practices around specific events and on collective memory in the diaspora communities. Seyma examines the role of women in the community-making process of diasporas and how this relates to collective memory. In particular, she discusses the case of Armenian women in the UK-based diaspora population and their performative contributions to the narrative-making process and the shaping of collective remembrance.  She is planning to conduct semi-structured interviews with intended people (Armenian women who are engaged in diasporic activities in London and Manchester, between the ages of 18 and 70). She is also planning to observe the participants at the remembrance days, events and other activities.
