Background

Born in Nottingham and studied Mechanical Engineering at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham. Worked for 12 years at Slingsby Engineering Ltd as a designer, mainly of underwater vehicle and manipulator systems and devices for the nuclear industry. Joined Loughborough University in 1989 as a lecturer in Engineering Design.
