 Background

Born in Cappadocia, Turkey. Graduated from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey, with BS in Mechanical Engineering (1974). Obtained MSc in Textile Technology from UMIST, the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (1979) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology (1984).
