The Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University is one of the largest Engineering Schools devoted to this subject area in the United Kingdom. Given the multidisciplinary nature of our research we work closely with other University departments and many of our research groups reflect this approach. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise we were rated top of our Unit of Assessment (in terms of GPA x volume). Our research programmes are undertaken within the School’s 10 research groups:
The School has an enviable international reputation in all areas of its research; see the conferences page and publications page for more details.
The School is now home to three new EPSRC National Centres of Excellence in Manufacturing Research with funding of £50m.
Research grants, principally from the UK Research Councils and the EU, and extensive industrial collaborations generate new research funds currently in excess of £9M/year, putting us amongst the highest earners at any UK university. These grants support a range of Research Assistant posts and Research Studentships as well as enabling purchase of dedicated and specialised equipment. We offer challenging research appointments demanding theoretical, practical and creative skills that will take you to the leading edge of the technological area in which you are working. Opportunities for international travel come through the need to present your work at international conferences and publication of your work in prestigious scientific journals will ensure that your achievements take their rightful place in the worldwide research community.
