Research Fellow

Shiyu Zhang is a Research Fellow in the Wireless Communications Research Group in the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electronic and Manufacturing Engineering.

He completed his PhD on wearable textile antennas at Loughborough University. Following graduation, he has worked as a Research Associate, and now Research Fellow, in the School, carrying out research on synthetic materials and metamaterials.

His research interests are in basic antennas, wearable flexible antennas & electronic systems, RF & microwave devices, metamaterials, artificial dielectrics, lens antennas, and 3D printed antennas.

Shiyu Zhang studied MSc in Communication Engineering at the University of Manchester after his undergraduate studies in China. He started his PhD on wearable textile antennas at Loughborough University in 2011 and received his degree in 2014. He is currently working as a Research Fellow in the Wireless Communications Research Group, carrying out research on synthetic materials and metamaterials.

Research interests include wearable textile antennas, flexible fabric electronic systems, frequency selective surface, artificial dielectrics and metamaterials.

Currently he is working on a cross-discipline research project of investigating synthetic materials and metamaterials for antenna applications at microwave frequencies.
