Liam is a PhD student in the Photovoltaic Materials and Devices (PVMAD) group in CREST. Prior to this, Liam completed a Masters in Chemistry at the University of Liverpool (2017). During his degree, he completed a bachelors research project under Professor Mathias Brust exploring the synthesis and phase transfer of gold nanoparticles, and a masters project under Professor Alex Cowan investigating catalyst-assisted electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide.

PhD Thesis Title: Process Optimisation of the Spray Pyrolysis of Cu(In,Ga)Se Thin Film Photovoltaics

Liam's research focuses on copper indium galium diselenide (CIGS), a second generation photovoltaic material that has the potential to be inexpensively manufactured while still producing highly efficient cells. By spraying the CIGS absorber, the devices can be made quickly and cheaply, allowing faster uptake and deployment of solar.
