Senior Research Engineer

Dr Jonathan Clarke is the senior research engineer in the Intelligent Automation Centre with more than 10 years’ experience delivering complex technical projects. Jonathan has a track record of delivering clear, high-quality and widely referenced reports on complex issues.  A cross disciplinary engineer with a PhD in Avionics, bridging fields from Aeronautical Engineering to Electronics and Computer Science, he is a creative lateral thinker bringing valuable technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.

Previous projects Jonathan has led include; process analysis and human skill capture for automation (Rolls-Royce), remote video monitoring for complex and critical processes (Rolls-Royce), complex data fusion (DSTL), design of autonomous UAV flight control system strategies and design of large volume asset tracking systems.  Most of these projects revolve around the detailed understanding of user requirements and complex system integration challenges.

Other experience includes; sensor integration from diverse and redundant systems, aircraft design, design of CNC machines (including 3D Printers), compliant actuators and grippers, estimation and control of manufacturing robots, electroadhesion, design for manufacture, UAV flight testing.
