Curtis graduated from the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Loughborough University in 2017, with the degree of Master of Mathematics, First Class Honours. He was awarded two departmental prizes for achieving the best degree mark and best dissertation project.

He subsequently received a studentship from the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University to study for his PhD which he completed in 2021. He continued this work during a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Loughborough University from 2021 to 2022, before taking his current position as University Teacher in Sports Technology back in the Wolfson School.
