Visitor feedback

Our applicant visit days are exclusive events for offer holders and you will receive your personal invitation to attend by email. Different to a University Open Day, the visit day is focussed on the Department and gives you the chance to find out more about the course you have applied for, while getting a sense of what it's like to be a Loughborough student.

The 2019/20 events will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 4 December
  • Saturday 15 February
  • Saturday 29 February
  • Saturday 14 March
  • Saturday 28 March
  • Wednesday 1 April

The Wednesday visits are University-wide events that will include campus tours, laboratory tours and subject-specific presentations, enabling you to see our excellent campus facilities, learn more about your chosen course, and talk to current students and members of academic staff.

Our Saturday visits are School of Science events that begin with registration between 9.30-10.30am followed by a welcome presentation, campus and accommodation tours, plus a taster lecture to give you a real insight into studying mathematical sciences at Loughborough. As part of the day you will also have the opportunity to get a flavour of student life with lunch in our University dining halls.

Whichever day you choose to visit us you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome, and we very much look forward to meeting you! Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

General advice

As the Visit Day will involve tours of our School facilities and the University campus, we recommend you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. At our School of Science visit days held on Saturdays we will be providing a lunch at one of our campus dining halls, giving you the opportunity to experience the high quality food available to our students*, as well as tea and coffee at the start and finish of the day. Should you require anything else there are various food and drink outlets on campus, including our Students' Union shop.

*Lunch will be provided for the visiting student and one guest with the option to buy additional lunch tickets at a cost of £5.00 per person. Please note that a limited sample of meal options will be available, including a vegetarian option.

Finding your way around

Hopefully you will find the information on this page sufficient to help you arrive at the right place on time! There will be signage around campus to direct you to the correct venue and staff and students will be happy to direct you if you get lost.

You can also view our campus map online.

Travelling to and from Loughborough by rail

Rail travellers - will arrive at Loughborough Central Station, approximately 3 miles from the campus.

Taxi fares will be charged on a metered basis (approx £6-£7).

From the station you can also catch the University/Town/Station Kinchbus service ("Sprint").  This service operates approximately every 15 mins (dependent on traffic). The fare is £2.10.

For those attending a Visit Day on Wednesdays at the West Park Teaching Hub, please alight at the STEMLab stop. The venue is a short walk from the stop. On Saturdays the Sprint service may not stop at STEMLab so please alight at the Mechanical Engineering stop (ask the driver if unsure).

For events at the James France Exhibition Hall, please alight at the Computer Studies stop. The venue is a short walk from there.

Travelling to and from Loughborough by coach

Coach travellers - will arrive at Loughborough at The Rushes or Baxter Gate in the centre of town.

From The Rushes stop you can catch the Kinchbus Sprint service to the University. See above for the relevant bus stops on campus.

Travelling to and from Loughborough by car

Car travellers - are advised to take one of the following routes

(if you are using a SatNav, the post code is LE11 3RG):

M1: Junction 23 on to the A512 to Loughborough, approx 2 miles to 1st roundabout, turn right, at the next roundabout go straight-over into Holywell Park for car parking.

A6 from North and South: follow signs for Loughborough, then University and/or Nanpantan.

A60 from Nottingham, or A511 from Leicester or Burton: follow signs for Loughborough, then University and/or Nanpantan.

Please note: car parking can be limited on campus.

In the first instance please report to the Gatehouse at HOLYWELL PARK, where you will be given instructions regarding parking.

On a particularly busy visit day, you may be directed to alternative parking. The Gatehouse at Holywell Park will give you further instructions if this is necessary.

For Saturday events held at the West End of campus we advise you to use Car Park One - the multistorey car park. If you have any difficulty parking please ask tell our marshals which venue you are going to and they can direct you to appropriate parking.

Help when you need it

There will be a large team of student ambassadors working at the events. They will have a range of roles on the day including directions and parking, welcoming, tours, registration etc. If you need assistance on the day these ambassadors can be identified by their purple "Team Loughborough" t-shirts or subject-specific hoodies. School staff and members of the Events Team will also be in attendance at the events to assist.
