The East Midlands Materials Society (EMMS) is a local society affiliated to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and we organise technical meetings and works visits, host the local heat of the Young Persons Lecture Competition and run a social event each year. 

We hold technical meetings at Rolls-Royce and at Derby, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Nottingham Trent Universities on a wide range of materials-related topics such as Structural Biomimicry, Materials Development for Battery Technology and Ceramic Matrix Composites for Aero Engines. 

We also offer up to £200 towards conference travel to students that attend two or more of our events in a year and we will pay travel expenses to students to attend events. 

EMMS recently awarded the Local Society of the Year award to the Department of Materials at Loughborough University and the image above shows Dr Simon Hogg from the Department, (the current President of EMMS), with the Local Society of the Year trophy!
