Research Interests


My research interests are in Quaternary marine geology and geophysics, glacial and glacially-influenced sedimentation, reconstruction of Quaternary ice-masses and their dynamics in high-latitude glaciated regions, as well as past environmental and oceanographic change in Antarctica, Greenland and Polar North Atlantic Ocean. Research utilises geological and geophysical data acquired from marine and terrestrial environments.


Ship-based research has focused on the fjords and continental margin of Eastern Greenland, Norwegian-Greenland Sea, as well as the continental margins of Svalbard, Antarctic Peninsula and the Amundsen Sea (Pine Island Bay) and Bellingshausen Sea regions of West Antarctica. Land-based research has been conducted on Svalbard and across Southern Africa.


Current research focuses on:

  1. Quaternary history, behaviour and dynamics of the Antarctic Ice Sheet based on marine geological and geophysical investigations(Antarctic Peninsula & West Antarctica).
  2. Reconstructing the Quaternary history and dynamics of the Greenland Ice Sheet using marine geological & geophysical data.
  3. Glacial and glacially-influenced sedimentation beneath and adjacent to floating and grounded ice sheets/glaciers/ice shelves in Greenland and Antarctica from marine investigations.
