Human Factors & Ergonomics Hub hosts World Patient Safety Day

The Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) in Health and Social Care Hub launches new website and alumni hub, plus hosts World Patient Safety Day.

The HFE in Health & Social Care Hub website has just gone live website with information about accredited short courses, networking events, research and expert support.  The site is still under development and new content will be added over the next few weeks so watch this space.  The Hub team is looking forward to working with colleagues across the globe to support wellbeing (for all) and systems performance in safer health and social care services.

The HFE Alumni Hub was recently launched to to create a support mechanism for HFE practitioners for Continuing Professional Development, professional issues, research, and support with student projects and internships. The event had amazing feedback, with the group welcoming the opportunity to widen the knowledge and impact of HFE in healthcare.

The Launch event was closely followed by the first World Health Organisation (WHO) World Patient Safety Day hosted by Loughborough University in collaboration with the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) on 17 September.  WHO has established a World Patient Safety Day to be marked annually and this is a campaign for all stakeholders in the health care system to work together to improve patient safety.  The Loughborough event was attended by around 70 people and included talks from Dr Kevin Stewart, Medical Director HSIB, on the challenges of system-level National Investigations in healthcare followed by a panel discussion in the afternoon.  Again the feedback was excellent with the delegates already keen to plan an event for 2020! See the video from the event here.
