The future of engineering is changing

Design School student Devika Malik has been selected to represent the University at the Unilever WomEng event which will be taking place on the 5th & 6th of December in Port Sunlight, England.

Devika Studied for her PhD at Loughborough University - Women's Experiences in Disability Sports at the Design School.

The Unilever event is working towards gender balance in engineering careers in the next two upcoming years. The event included a variety of activities such as factory tours, inspirational talks and workshops that focus on numerous topics including personal branding, leadership and networking.

Marc Engel, Chief Supply Chain Officer, says: “It’s very important that within our supply chain and in particular in engineering – where traditionally women are under-represented – that we build a culture of gender equality and gender balance. In the past two years, we have doubled the number of female engineers, but we need to go much further towards true gender balance.”
