Alastair Gale

I am a psychologist by design and an ergonomist by accident. All my research is concerned with human performance, performance errors and how to minimise these. I am a: registered Health Professions Council Practitioner Psychologist; Fellow of the British Psychological Society; Chartered Psychologist; Chartered Health Psychologist; Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist; Fellow of the Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors; and an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Radiology. I was awarded: the Ergonomics Society Otto Edholm award 2007; the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors President’s medal 2010, and Loughborough University’s first Enterprise award 2009. I invented the first radiological self-assessment scheme, used nationally in breast cancer screening, and developed one of the first computer aided diagnostic aids for breast cancer based on mammographic feature identification.
