Academics awards £200,000 grant for AI and machine vision system for food manufacturing automation

Computer Science researchers have been awarded £200,000 from IUK Knowledge Transfer to carry out a project on AI and machine vision system for food manufacturing automation.

Dr Baihua Li and Professor Qinggang Meng from the Department of Computer Science will undertake the project which aims to develop real-time AI-embedded sensory and vision systems to perform food manufacturing tasks in real-world factory environments. A range of AI, machine vision and deep learning algorithms will be developed, resolving various theoretical and practical challenges in industrial environments.

The developed AI and machine vison technology will be deployed and fully tested on food production lines, and empower a range of new automation functions on production conveyors at Millitec Food Systems Ltd.
