Lecture Synopsis

AWS Cyber Event Recovery - Building Operational Resilience

This lecture explores the critical importance of cyber event recovery in today's threat landscape, where backups are compromised during attacks and cyber incidents can cause global losses of Trillions of dollars. Students will examine the evolution from traditional disaster recovery to comprehensive cyber resilience strategies, focusing on Cloud Hosted Data Vaults (CHDVs) as the cornerstone of modern data protection. The session covers seven strategic points for building effective ransomware recovery capabilities, including threat modeling, data vault architecture design, and the implementation of AWS's 3-2-1-1-0 data resilience strategy. Through real-world case studies and regulatory frameworks from organizations like DORA, NYDFS, and the Bank of England, students will understand how enterprises can leverage AWS services including S3 Object Lock, AWS Backup, and Amazon FSx to create logically air-gapped, immutable data vaults that ensure business continuity in the face of sophisticated cyber threats. The lecture emphasizes the shift from reactive recovery to proactive resilience planning, demonstrating how cloud-native architectures can provide agile protection, faster recovery times, and regulatory compliance
compared to traditional on-premises solutions.
