The Department of Physics is delighted to invite you to the 2021 Sir Nevill Mott Lecture, which will be presented online by Dr. Alan Baratz is entitled “Practical Quantum Computing”. Dr. Alan Baratz became the CEO of D-Wave in 2020.

This year’s lecture will take place on Microsoft Teams (link to join below).

The Sir Nevill Mott Lecture is an annual event hosted by the Department of Physics at Loughborough. The lecture series is named after Sir Nevill Mott, a friend of the Department, who permitted his name to be associated with the annual talk after he presented at Loughborough University in 1995.

Biography

Previously, as executive vice president, R&D and chief product officer, Dr Alan Baratz drove the development, delivery, and support of all of D-Wave’s products, technologies, and applications. D-Wave Systems, Inc., established in 1999, is a Canadian quantum computing company, based in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. D-Wave was the world's first company to sell computers to exploit quantum effects in their operation.

Dr Baratz has over 25 years of experience in product development and bringing new products to market at leading technology companies and software startups.
