Resources for schools in lockdown encourage students to consider going into Higher Education

Loughborough's School and College Liaison Team HE at Home scheme provides resources to schools and families to aid home-schooling. The resources are still available to download and use over the summer.

The School and College Liaison Team at Loughborough University launched their HE at Home scheme during lockdown, providing resources to schools and families to aid home-schooling.

Building on the success of the HE Unboxed initiative, the HE at Home scheme is committed to supporting attainment and progression for students, especially those from disadvantaged groups.

The free, downloadable resources are broken down into 20 sessions and are verified by the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC) as working towards Gatsby Benchmarks 4,5 and 7, giving students access to a balanced academic and careers focused curriculum.

Among the available resources are HE at Home projects for chemistrymaths and physics.

The sessions have been created with different levels, from simple to complex, making them accessible for students aged between 10-18. The step-by-step format and utilisation of household items also empowers parents or older siblings to deliver the sessions with ease.

The resources have been accessed locally and nationwide, including 84 schools. St Michael’s Catholic High School in Watford said: “Thank you for supporting schools, teachers and parents during these difficult times.”

Kirsty Wilkinson, School and College Liaison Manager added: “We recognise the disruption to traditional, classroom-based learning that the pandemic has caused and are therefore really pleased to be able to offer a resource to help aid home-schooling. We hope that students and their families enjoy the HE at Home activities and they continue to access them over the coming months.”

The resources are still available to download and use over the summer. More information on HE at Home is available here.
