Background:

Educated at Moscow State University, PhD from USSR Academy of Sciences, DSc from Petersburg (former Leningrad) University. Joined Loughborough University as a Professor in 1999. Previously Visiting Professor: University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA; Sofia University, Bulgaria; Instituto Pluridisciplinar, Madrid, Spain; Toulouse University, France; and University of Wales, Swansea, UK.

Honorary Professor, Moscow State University of Food Production, Russia (2007 to present).

Outline of main research interests:

  • Kinetics of wetting and spreading: influence of surface forces, spreading over hydrophobic and porous substrates
  • Influence of surface forces on membrane separation: nano-filtration, ultra- and microfiltration (fouling and/or gel layers formation)
  • Influence of surface forces on rheology of concentrated suspensions
