Dr Yolandi Burger
Lecturer: Graphic Communications and Illustration
Dr Yolandi Burger is currently a lecturer in the School of Design and Creative Arts at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. She holds a PhD in Higher Education Studies from the University of the Free State in South Africa together with a Master’s degree in Design. She has taught in art and design education for more than 10 years and published several articles and scholarly book chapters. Her professional interests include the ever-changing role of creatives in the world and the resulting impact this phenomenon has on the design pedagogy, research opportunities, educational technologies, and ecology of higher education.
Dr Burger joined several academic teams over the past decade in several capacities including programme coordination/management, curriculum developer, lecturer and research supervisor. Her experience is centred around Graphic Design programmes and their collaboration with other disciplines such as Digital Design, Copywriting, Brand Strategy, Interior Design, Photography, Game Design and Fashion Design. She applies design thinking approaches to design curriculum for “real” people. She is currently teaching in the B.A. (Hons): Graphic Communication and Illustration programme at Loughborough University.
Dr Burger describes herself as a curious researcher that is interested in co-design methodologies, responsible citizenship, social change and what is next within our ever-changing discipline. She is very passionate about research and enjoy teaching research methodologies to her students with can enhance their practice.
