Fine Art student designs World Cup clothing range
Rosanna Frith-Salem, who is currently taking a placement year between the second and final years of her Fine Art degree, has helped create a range of football themed t-shirts to commemorate the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
Inspired by renowned artist Sonia Delaunay, Rosanna’s designs will be available through The Art of Football website, where she was recently on placement.
The company specialises in creating artwork from great footballing moments which are printed onto t-shirts and jumpers for fans to purchase.
Rosanna is also a member of Loughborough Students Women’s Football first team and has continued to support the team throughout their record-breaking season. She will rejoin the team when she returns to Loughborough in September.
Talking about her experience, Rosanna said: “I started working at the Art of Football last September, helping mainly with animations. I then got involved with the production side of the company, learning the basics of printing, and in the new year, the team saw the opportunity to celebrate the upcoming Women’s World Cup and appointed me to start planning a range.
“We started off with a Super League range and have recently launched the new World Cup tees and sweaters. I was inspired by Sonia Delaunay’s work and I chose her because firstly she is French and with the World Cup being hosted by France, I thought this would be the perfect time to celebrate her as a strong female artist of the early 1900s.”
Rosanna added: “I personally designed six of the tees using watercolours and I’ve also contributed to other designers’ work. I’m now in a role experiencing both the design work and the social media side of the company, trying to use new platforms and broaden our current engagement, especially with the women’s football range.
“I’ve enjoyed building the foundations for next year and hopefully I’ll be able to come back and continue this after finishing my degree at Loughborough University.”
