Textiles students showcase work at Charnwood Arts knitting exhibition
First year textiles students have debuted their work at local community group Charnwood Arts’ knitting exhibition.
The voluntary group is currently showcasing the ‘Our Knitted Story’ project at Loughborough’s Charnwood Museum Gallery.
The project includes everything from knitting to embroidery to soft sculpture and explores connections, bonds and memories through generations and across cultures.
The focus of the project is on the history of hand-crafting and brings together memories of knitting, crocheting and other textile based activities.
First year textiles students from the University were set a challenge by MA student Sarah Green to respond to the exhibition’s theme. Over 70 students produced work as part of their coursework and samples created by 15 students are currently in the exhibition. Items and quotes from member of crafts groups and people who craft alone are also on show.
The exhibition continues until Saturday 5 July at Charnwood Museum. Entrance is free and the show will be open during the usual Charnwood Museum opening hours.
