Jonathan Meuli: Icons for Atheists

Presented By Prof Phillip Lindley (Curator)
  • Open by appointment: contact n.slater@lboro.ac.uk or p.g.lindley@lboro.ac.uk
  • Martin Hall Exhibition Space
  • Ticket Information

Dr Jonathan Meuli is a painter based in Glasgow. He graduated from the Ruskin School in Oxford in 1982. This show comprises ten new works, painted specifically for the Martin Hall exhibition space, with two earlier works. The theme was suggested by an architect friend who was looking at a painting, combining geometrical and expressive abstraction, in Meuli’s Glasgow studio. He remarked that it looked like ‘an icon for atheists’. I suggested to Jonathan that he explored the theme for us at Loughborough and these ten new works are the impressive result.
