The Chatsworth Festival - Art Out Loud
About this event
18-20th September 2015 sees the launch of The Chatsworth Festival – Art Out Loud :talks by 25 speakers, drawn from those who create, curate or write about art.
Among the speakers is Alison Yarrington, Dean of the School of the Arts, English and Drama at Loughborough - in conversation with Matthew Hirst, Head of Arts and Historic Collections at Chatsworth. Together they discuss the passionate collecting of contemporary sculpture by 6th Duke of Devonshire (1790-1858) – and the stunning gallery he created to show it off!
In 2009 Alison Yarrington led the project to restore the gallery to its original glory and explains how it functions as an historic interior and continues to display contemporary art (including the Raw Edges seating installation which forms part of the Make Yourself Comfortable exhibition). Full details of the programme of speakers – who also include Charles Saumarez Smith CEO of Royal Academy and its Artistic Director Tim Marlow (on Ai Weiwei) and Conrad Shawcross, RA – can be found at www.chatsworth.org/chatsworth-festival (and on Facebook and Twitter).
