Pottery is typically thought of as a mere craft, yet it shares the same qualities as any other sculptural process: form, colour, surface, space. In order to address the segregation of craft and fine art, my practice uses traditional pottery techniques to create a contemporary fusion of both functional and sculptural objects. The compositions that I create aim to subvert the viewer’s preconceived idea of what a ‘pot’ can be, whilst highlighting the true versatility of clay as a medium.
