Arts degree show2017

Joshua James Heaton

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS or ME) is characterised by persistent fatigue, and limits my capacity for physical activity.

My work is primarily an exploration of the restraints of my CFS and explores the possibility that the mundane traces around us can be art. I have been actively inactive, working through others by capturing the traces of processes and materials within predetermined parameters that allow for marks influenced by chance. This work questions the role of authorship in the production of art, by re-presenting and laying claim to the marks of others. Whilst questioning the role of intentional and unintentional marks, control and lack thereof in the appreciation of an artwork.
