All human life is like that of a flower.
I have chosen the fluid symbol of the rose as a metaphor for human life. By sculpting hundreds of roses in a cyclical dome structure, I have created a monument of life and death. The piece is my own personal visualisation of the poem ‘The Force That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower’ by Dylan Thomas. My ceramic roses have become a language, mimicking the structure and imagery within the poem. Using clay in various ways has allowed my work to display a youthful glow as well as a fragile and aged appearance.
