My artwork serves to critique censoring of the female body, as exemplified by social media platforms such as Instagram, which removes images deemed inappropriate. Male torsos may be displayed, whilst their policy regarding nudity ‘extends to female nipples’.
The vocabulary of my work consists of geometric squares which come together to form a larger pixelated image, deconstructing the body to its basic form of areas of colour. My work reduces both the male and female torso into simple abstract configurations of colour. Working exclusively with oil paint allows a dynamic painting approach of layering, building up and blurring. My practice is very process-driven, with focus on colour and painterly application.
