“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”–Albert Einstein.

In ancient times, the honey bee was a sacred and worshipped creature throughout Egyptian, Chinese and Greek cultures: not only because of its key role in nature but because of the complex honeycomb structures. Unfortunately, in present times, the importance of bees has been forgotten resulting in the issue of global bee decline.

To highlight this contemporary issue, my practice focuses on the beauty and fragility of the hive to create a visual interaction, using a variety of mixed media that provokes thought about these underestimated creatures and raises awareness.
