Profile
In 2004 I obtained my degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Messina (Italy) (5-year MEng equivalent). In March 2008 I was awarded a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering (emphasis on Structural Engineering) from the University of Messina. The topic was “Random field models and stochastic analysis of irregular masonry structures”. From September 2006 to June 2007 I was a visiting doctoral student at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Department of Structural Mechanics, under the joint supervision of Prof Michal Šejnoha and Prof Jan Zeman.
In March 2009 I joined the University of Sheffield as a post-doc Research Assistant within EPSRC funded project “Finite elements for gradient elasticity in statics and dynamics”, carrying out research in the field of Computational Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials in collaboration with Prof Harm Askes.
From June 2009 to January 2011 I was a post-doc Research Associate at the University of Sheffield, working on "Top-down multi-scale modelling strategies for UHMWPE composites", a research project funded by DSTL (investigators: Prof Harm Askes and Dr Andrew Tyas).
