Our courses

Our English and Liberal Arts courses are taught by friendly and enthusiastic lecturers who are passionate about the subject and who are actively engaged in producing world-leading research.

Why choose Loughborough?

There are so many great reasons to choose us, but here are just a few reasons why Loughborough is an excellent place to study English or Liberal Arts.

Placements and international opportunities

All our students have the chance to undertake a professional work placement during their degree, in organisations from across the public and private sectors. Recent placement destinations include: BP, Volkswagen, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Samsung Electronics, Confederation of British Industry, PwC, Department of Work and Pensions, Food Standards Agency and Sky. Students also have an opportunity to spend a year (or semester) abroad by securing paid work teaching English to school children or studying at a partner university.

A creative environment

We offer welcoming teaching spaces where students can work quietly and collaboratively, and venues for literary and creative events. Our students organise and participate in a wide range of events and activities including film screenings, visiting lectures, workshops by creative writers, readings and creative writing evenings. Students can also take advantage of The Student Wordsmith, an award-winning online writing and publishing platform aimed specifically at student and graduate audiences.

Language opportunities

The Language Centre which is based in the School, provides a range of language modules in French, German, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese from beginners’ level upwards. Students may take these modules as part of their degree, enter the programme at their level of competence and working upwards one semester at a time.
