Learn how to sew in a four-week course as part of a wider Sustainable Fashion project with LSU Enterprise.

Do you want to learn how to sew? Do you fancy making your own clothes or repairing and reusing existing ones? Then Sewing Sustainably for Beginners could be the perfect course for you!

Over four weeks Josephine Thompson (founder of Churchside Crafts) will teach you how to:

  • set up and use a sewing machine
  • embellish garments with hand and free motion machine embroidery
  • reconstruct, repair and resuse old clothes

Workshops run from 2-5pm on Wed 23 Nov, Wed 30 Nov, Tues 6 Dec and Tues 13 Dec.

The course will cost £10 including materials and you will need to commit to attending all four sessions.

Register your interest

Places are strictly limited and we want to make sure they go to students who will be committed to all four sessions. You will first need to register your interest by completing an online form. Deadline for registering is Monday 14 November 2022. Sustainable Fashion Project

This is the first stage in an exciting collaboration between LSU Enterprise and LU Arts.  The second stage of the project will include more advanced textiles workshops with artist Bruce Asbestos and will culminate in a Sustainable Fashion Show in the Union in March 2023! We hope that the students who take part in this short course will go on to get involved in the rest of the project and create a piece which will be modeled at the Fashion Show.

The workshops will take place in one of the upstairs meeting rooms in the Students' Union. There is lift access to the first floor and accessible toilets on the ground floor and first floor of the Union building.

If you have any specific access requirements or anything you would like us to be aware of when running the event, please let us know via the booking form (if you are offered a place) or email in advance of booking and we will do our best to accommodate them.
