Reinvent: Catwalk CreationsBook now
Join artist Bruce Asbestos to create your very own catwalk-ready sustainable outfit.
This is a chance to try out new ideas, meet new people and be inspired by one another.
Bruce will lead you through these trial and error making sessions, looking at how basic items and recycled materials can be magically and quickly transformed into transcendent performance costumes. It’s a chance to try out some new ideas, momentarily get that feeling of a busy studio pre-catwalk, and be inspired by other people’s working out.
At the first session, Bruce will give a brief introduction to his work and show some of the more cranky-janky looks from his previous catwalks, such as Bruce Asbestos A/W2022, which included recycled and repurposed everything.
Over the four sessions you will attempt to make something amazing out of something that is not, and feedback, encourage, chat-a-round subjects as and when it’s needed.
By the end you will have created a catwalk ready, super sustainable outfit. This session is for people interested in performance, catwalks, art, fashion and anti-fashion, and making a lot, out of not a lot.
This is the second stage in an exciting collaboration between LSU Enterprise and LU Arts, which will culminate in a Sustainable Fashion Show in the Union on Tuesday 14 March! The costumes created in these workshops will be modelled at the Fashion Show.
No prior sewing skills are needed but you will need to bring along some old clothes/material to repurpose into your catwalk piece.
The workshops will run on Wed 1st February, Wed 8th February, Wed 22nd February and Wed 1st March, from 2-5pm each day. The course is £10 and you will need to commit to attending all four sessions. The deadline for booking is 5pm on Monday 30 January 2023.
