A series of events celebrating creative collaboration.

LU Arts has had a long-standing commitment to interdisciplinarity, seen most clearly in Radar, our strand of activity that invites artists to develop work in response to academic research. Going forward we want to dedicate more time to encouraging and supporting collaboration between different disciplines at all levels, whether that be student or staff. Bringing together different skills, different perspectives and different voices can open up new possibilities and new ways of thinking that can often result in innovative outcomes. We also hope it can be fun!

To coincide with the end of year Design and Creative Arts Degree Shows, we are holding a week of discussions and events that showcase some existing examples of interdisciplinary practice. We have got presentations by academics across the School of Design and Creative Arts and events that are part of our Radar programme. We have also invited Sigune Hamann and Joantha kearnan from Camberwell College of Arts to deliver Shared Language. Devised in collaboration with neuroscientists at Oxford University, this participatory project playfully engages academics from different backgrounds in discussion about their work with a focus on images rather than words.

Over the coming year we will further develop a programme that brings together students from different disciplines through workshops, events or competitions. We will also organise more opportunities for academics to share their research via creative platforms in the hope that these informal conversations lead to meaningful research outputs.
