Happy Mondays: Performance poetry workshop with Jess GreenBook now
Performance poetry workshop exploring how to write effectively on themes you care about. Whether that's climate change, gender equality or your love of dogs. During a session we will be exploring how to get an audience on side and to take them with you while you're on stage. This will be a lively, informal workshop where students will be encouraged to write and share work.
BBC Slam Champion and Scottish National Slam Finalist, Jess Green is a performance poet and playwright who has performed at Glastonbury, Latitude, Bestival and the Edinburgh Fringe. Her first collection, Burning Books (2015, Burning Eye Books) was shortlisted for the East Midlands Book Award and as a live show received 5* reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe and on tour. The theatre adaptation of Burning Books was longlisted for the Bread & Roses Theatre Award and toured nationally including to NUT National Conference.
Her second show, A Self Help Guide To Being In Love With Jeremy Corbyn based on her second collection of the same name (2018, Burning Eye Books) received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and an endorsement from Corbyn himself who described it as ‘fantastic’. A Self Help Guide is touring throughout 2019 and has received 5* reviews. Jess also runs Leicester poetry night, Find The Right Words which was shortlisted for Best Regular UK Poetry Event in the Saboteur Awards 2018.
