Free literary festival running from 30th May until 4th June including open mic, poetry workshops, online crime panel, graduate panel, and a full day of performances.

About this event

‘Behind the Mask’ is a student-run literary festival of identity and diversity at a time when everyone has experienced the effects of living behind a mask. This series of events aims to unveil stories and experiences, bringing awareness to the literal and figurative masks that occupy the space between creative writers and their writing.

This is the first year they are running this Loughborough-based literary festival! It includes five FREE literary-themed events live and on Zoom between 30th May and 4th June! Details below:

A Night of Voices

Monday 30th May, 18:00

An Open Mic night on Monday 30th May at The Organ Grinder from 18:00 onwards. A chance for you to share your poems—especially if they have a 'behind the mask' theme. All welcome to join for a friendly atmosphere upstairs in The Hayloft.

Exploring Poetry

Tuesday 31st May, 19:00-21:00

A friendly discussion of a collection of chosen poems with a focus on reading 'behind the mask' of the words and encouraging your personal interpretations at the White Hart on Tuesday 31st May from 19:00-21:00.

Unveiling Crime Writing

Wed 1st June, 17:00-19:00 (Online)

Online live readings and Q&A sessions on Zoom from three crime writers at different stages in their careers, who will read from their work and answer your questions about this popular genre from 17:00-19:00 on Wednesday 1st June. FEATURING Johanna Mo, Megan Constable & Kate Rhodes! Beyond Loughborough

Beyond Loughborough

Fri 3rd June, 18:00-20:30

From 18:00-20:30 on Friday 3rd June, four alumnae of Loughborough Creative Writing 'unmask' their experiences of moving from being a student or PhD researcher to becoming a published author, and their experiences in the writing industries. Followed by readings from MA students. Unveiling Stories & Experiences

Main Event

Sat 4th June, 10:00-16:30
